Sebastiano Rosa Joins Winemaking Team at Castello di Amorosa

Gs_sr_bp_2012_1_cropped
Castello di Amorosa announced that Sebastiano Rosa, winemaker at Tenuta San Guido - producer of Sassicaia- one of Italy's leading Bordeaux-style red wines has joined the winemaking team of Brooks Painter, Peter Velleno and Laura Orozco. Rosa will travel from his home in Bolgheri, Italy to consult with Painter's team on all aspects of Castello's Italian-style red wine program.
"From the vineyard to the glass, the addition of Sebastiano Rosa will bring an international perspective to our program," said Georg Salzner, President of Castello di Amorosa. "Our history is Italian; our winery is Italian style so it is natural that we partner with Sebastiano to create unique, Italian-style wines."
Rosa, the stepson of Nicolo Incisa della Rocchetta whose family owns Sassicaia, brings an extensive wine background to the team. Upon graduating from UC Davis in 1990, Rosa participated in the 1991 harvest at the storied Château Lafite Rothschild.
From 1992 until 2002, he was the General Manager at Tenuta di Argiano in Montalcino where he worked with legendary winemaker, Giacomo Tachis, considered by some, the father of the renaissance of Italian wine. While Sassicaia was the first wine in the Renaissance, his other label, Solengo, was the number 8 wine in Wine Spectator's Top 100 and received 96 points in only its second vintage.
Rosa, the Technical Director of Tenuta San Guido from 2002 until 2011, managed the Sassicaia cellar where he started the second and third labels for Sassicaia: Guidalberto and Le Difese.

Napa Valley – Land of Plenty

Most of the people like wine region in the world is, Napa Valley. The warm climate, Spanish architecture and the laid back character of the vintners is all part of the appeal. The best wines are produced here. Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Merlot, Chardonnay, the best sparkling wines outside of Champagne.

Welcome_to_napa_valley_thumb

The historical past of Napa is amazing because it’s a location that has taken to popularity in a relatively little while. Winemaking began in the latter aspect of the 1800, during the growth periods of the precious gold. Italy and in German residents were amongst the first to flower the grape vine, using their savoir faire learned from winemaking back in the old community.
The arrival of other early pioneers foreshadowed the future direction the valley was to take but it wasn't until Charles Krug established the first commercial winery in the area, that its potential for wine-producing for the masses was recognized. By 1889, over twenty years since Krug's operation first opened, there were over 140 commercial vineyards.
Napa Valley has since faced serious threats to its industry by pest and phylloexera and also the enactment of Prohibition. All these factors forced vineyard owners and workers to look for other possibilities by learning new trades. Only a handful of wineries survive the hit but after the Prohibition was no longer live, the wine industry started blooming again. Even though the WWII was also a blow for the wine industry, the 50' brought a full recovery for the wine industry making the valley the wine lover's tourist paradise.
So as local wine makers are referring to the vintage specialties of the Napa wine, they are also pointing to the lush and diverse past. You can taste all these qualities in every drop of the valley's vino.

Will the symphony return to Napa Valley?

A recent article in the Napa Valley Register noted that the communty's Lincoln theater, as well as the Napa Valley symphony were funded largely in part by one man, Donald Carr. Carr was a real estate mogul that donated millions of dollars on a yearly basis to both entities. Recently, though, Carr passed away in a tragic auto accident. Thus putting an end to his donations to the musical arts and unfortunately, for the time being, the Napa Valley Symphony.

Even though the musical arts are on a hiatus, there is still more than enough entertainment within the Napa Valley to keep the residents and the tourists occupied. From the busseling restaurants like Hydro Bar and Grill in Calistoga, to the famous wineries such as Robert Mondavi and Clos Du Bois, the Napa Valley offers a variety of entertainment and commercial businesses that suits just about anyone.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Napa Valley away from the hustle and bustle, with the true Napa Valley spirit, then you will want to look into Aurora Park Cottages. We offer private, luxury lodging on top of Napa Valley. Each cottage is unique and private, complete with a luxuriously plush bed, cozy sitting area, breakfast nook, and bathroom.
